About Me
I am licensed by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. I hold a Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. My years of working in a school environment have afforded me extensive opportunities to assist both children and their families using diverse methods and approaches.
I believe people are experts of their own lives. Each client brings a unique story that is shaped by influences rooted in biology, sociology, and past experiences. For a holistic view, it is important to encompass principles of individualism with emphasis on client backgrounds. Exploring perceptions, private logic, lifestyle, and goals is necessary in order to fully assess and comprehend a client's specific needs.
While acknowledging the importance of a problem's origin for the purposes of self-awareness and processing, the focus of healing should be solution-focused. Teaching clients new strategies and skills is critical to successful treatment. Reeducating clients with ways they can self-monitor, adapt, and adjust cognitions and behavior is a skill that will lead to healthy, positive outcomes. Small changes can lead to changes of more significant impact: When progress is noted, confidence increases and the desire to move forward encourages client motivation and independence.
